June Episodes

June was packed—from celebrating my 36th birthday to wrapping up the successful run of Charity on Tap at Alamo Drafthouse for Team Jakey. The front half of the month brought some much-needed rest, but things ramped up quickly as we gear up for a huge July.

We’re talking Jurassic World: Rebirth, Superman, and Fantastic Four—with not one, but two Screen & Socials on the horizon. July 13th marks Superman Day at Busch Stadium (we will be there!).

On the airwaves, you might’ve caught us between 4–6 p.m. Monday through Friday on KLIS 590AM, and keep an eye out for guest spots on The Big 550AM KTRS and Fox St. Louis. We also launched our new segment Mostly Movie Phone with Mark from Alamo Drafthouse to keep you plugged into what’s hot in theaters. Big shoutout to our incredible PR partner Julie Lally at InsightRocks PR—none of this would be possible without her help!

Right now, it’s all about Superman. We’re diving back into the classics, showing up to local events, and doing everything we can to get guests from DC and the Superman universe on the podcast. We even dropped a fantastic interview with the Super Museum in Metropolis, IL.

More good stuff: BradenSTL broke the news on the pod about Foodies Eat First coming this August, and the Fabulous Fox has incredible shows lined up this year—check out the contest page for your chance to win tickets and other awesome prizes.

So, are you fired up for Superman, Fantastic Four, or another epic release this summer? Got news to share about your life, your biz, or just wanna hear yourself on the pod? Call or text us at 754-CALL-LOG.

July’s going to be hot and busy. Pace yourself—big things are coming! Take it easy!

Scotty Scoop here with the June newsletter! June is my birthday month, so it's always great! Saw Bit Brigade with Thor Axe at Off Broadway (both great bands, check them out!). Saw some fantastic films like How to Train Your Dragon, 28 Years Later, and F1! Recorded great episodes with Sam the DM, Swerve, and BradenSTL! I finished my years-long journey in Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere with Stormlight Archive Vol. 5: Wind and Truth (happy I can move on to something else, and sad there's not more Cosmere to read—for now! Isles of the Emberdark coming later this year!). Also finished my six-year-long D&D campaign!

Looking forward to July—we'll have plenty to talk about, with things like Jurassic World: Rebirth, Superman, Fantastic Four, and Ironheart. You know we'll be talking about that, and so much more here at Mostly Superheroes! Stay cool in July! Scoop out!

Hey squad!

Superhero summer is here. Unfortunately, the summer heat in STL does not power me up like it does Superman. My superpowers only include binge-watching.

I kicked the summer blockbusters off with an early screening of F1 this week. Brad Pitt, fast cars, and a true underdog/comeback story that has as many turns as a real Formula One track. I can’t call myself a racing fan, but this one plays to a wide audience and has a few high-throttle scenes that I would consider some of the best ever in a sports movie. Brad Pitt is still too damn good-looking to be playing old and washed-up anything, but he plays the part of Sonny Hayes so well. His unorthodox ways clash with Damson Idris’ character, Joshua Pearce. I didn’t expect anyone to put on a better performance than Brad… but Damson did it. The rookie and the veteran put on a show for the ages. This movie had much more than just speed and Brad Pitt’s pretty face, so I would recommend seeing this on a big screen with your best buds. My rating is a 3.F1/4.

In my free time, I’m getting to a pool when I can and getting caught up on Andor on Disney+. Episode 10 — “One Way Out” sealed the deal for me, as I was originally skeptical of this series. I’m about to dive into season two. The Peloton MCU rewatch is still charging ahead also — I just finished Hawkeye and moved on to Moon Knight. Check out our episodes for more, and please join us for a Screen and Social at Alamo Drafthouse soon!

Wazzzup!! You guys remember that? Simpler times—despite 9/11 and the dot-com bubble, it was a pretty decent time, all things considered! Should we campaign to bring back AOL Instant Messenger?? Man, I miss AIM.

Alright, enough soapbox. June is nearly over, and to be honest, I'm ready for it. It started with the kids getting croup and stridor, and an ER visit. Then it went into a pretty tame month outside of my little girl Rue's 1st birthday and Father's Day! Team Jakey had a quiet month, which is okay! Sometimes we need to recharge the batteries. Our Charity on Tap at Alamo Drafthouse ends this month, and I think it was a solid success! Looking forward to that final happy hour tomorrow.

One thing I didn't really get to do in June is start any new shows or get to the theater, which is sad. I desperately need my pool open with this heat! Unfortunately, you'll need to stay tuned for that in the August newsletter.

June Snore Score: 2/4. Not the best.
